JONNY COCKER & PAUL DRAYSON FINISH THE SEASON IN STYLE! |

Britcar Night Race - November 12th, 2007 Cocker & Drayson take outright victory Pole, fastest lap & a win ….. what a finish to the season! Barwell Motorsport finished the 2007 racing season in fine style at Brands Hatch on Saturday with an overall victory in the now well established Britcar 90-minute ‘Night Race'. Taking the outright spoils (as well as pole position and fastest lap) were Jonny Cocker & Paul Drayson in Paul's Bio-Ethanol-fuelled Aston Martin DBRS9. This continues Barwell Motorsport's incredible run of success in the Britcar Night Races, where they have taken wins in every race held since their inception in 2003. There was a strong entry for this year's Britcar season-closer, with the Aston's main rivals being fellow British GT refugees, Fenton/Gardiner, in their Dodge Viper (now able to run unrestricted. By the time of the 5.30pm start it was pitch black at the tight 1.2-mile Brands Hatch Indy circuit, and it was an impressive sight as Paul's big Aston V12 led the field away from pole position in a blur of white and red lights. Unfortunately for Paul, two warm-up laps of this track didn't give him much of a chance to get a lot of heat into the big Dunlop slick tyres on a cold November's evening, and as he fended off an early challenge from the Viper at Paddock Bend the Aston got out of shape and went into a quick spin. He collected the moment well and performed some superb avoidance of the pack before rejoining at the tail of the field with a lot of work to do! Paul then put in a fantastic recovery drive as he worked at getting back on terms with the race leaders. After scything his way past the saloon and other GT classes his Aston was then the fastest car on the track as Paul put in some great lap times to close the gap to the top cars. A safety car period just before the half-way point then gave us the perfect opportunity to bring him in to hand over to Jonny, and move onto the tail of the leading trio of cars. Jonny made light work of the Viper and then closed down the Mercer/Fores Marcos before taking the lead in a superb surprise move at Clearways. He then dropped the chasing pack at a rate of knots to claim the win for the Bio-fuel Aston by over half a minute at the flag. |
